Concrete responses to the difficulties of those who work and produce, peaceful protests and support for families. This is the appeal that comes from the Sanctuary of San Francesco di Paola, through a note from its press office addressed to the institutions, the protesters and the entire community. The reference starts from the example of Saint Francis: his “minimity”, we read in the document, “was not an escape from the world, but a choice to be on the side of the least against the abuses of the powerful, to remember that the economy cannot be thought of without the person”.

To the institutions: «Structural solutions are needed»

The Sanctuary asks institutions at all levels to listen “quickly and concretely to the cry of those who work and produce”. The request is to intervene with structural solutions, not just emergency ones, on the cost of energy, on transport, on support for agricultural and artisan businesses and against speculation.

To the demonstrators: «Nonviolence and respect for essential services»

A second invitation is addressed to those who demonstrate, so that legitimate protest remains “within the tracks of non-violence, respect for people and essential services” and does not become a blockade that penalizes other workers, sick people, students and families. The document urges us to continue seeking dialogue, avoiding closures that could fuel conflict.

“No family should be left alone”

The community is asked not to abandon those going through a difficult time. “The Sanctuary is and remains a place of welcome, listening and prayer, where everyone, believers and non-believers, can find a word of relief and a concrete hand”, underlines the note. The appeal ends with an invocation to San Francesco di Paola, patron saint of Calabria and seafarers, for social peace, dignified work and a Calabria capable of rediscovering trust and hope.
