A clear request at the end of the indictment: life imprisonment. This is the one advanced by the Catanzaro General Prosecutor’s Office against Francesco Olivieri, known as Ciko, 39 years old, accused of the double murder that occurred in Nicotera in 2018.

The request and the new trial

The proceedings are underway before the Court of Assizes of Appeal after a second annulment with postponement ordered by the Supreme Court. In addition to the two aggravated murders, Olivieri is also charged with attempted murder, personal injury, damage and crimes related to the carrying and illegal possession of weapons.

The facts of 2018

On 11 May 2018, in Nicotera, Michele Valarioti and Giuseppina Mollese were shot dead. In the same action Francesca Vardè, Vincenzo Timpano and Pantaleone Timpano were injured in Limbadi.

According to what was reported by the accused himself, the motive would be linked to the desire to avenge his brother Mario Olivieri, killed in 1997.

Conflicting reports

An expert report ordered by the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Catanzaro established Olivieri’s full capacity of understanding and will at the time of the facts. The defense has a different opinion, which instead supports the incapacity of its client through a biased consultancy.
