This morning, at 11:02, the earth shook in the Catanzaro area with a shock of local magnitude 3.2. The epicenter was located in the Presila area of Catanzaro, about 5 kilometers west of the municipality of Petronà, an area characterized by a complex geological structure.
The earthquake originated at a considerable depth, approximately 32 kilometers below the surface. Precisely this deep hypocenter allowed the seismic waves to propagate over a rather large radius of action, making the movement perceptible in many population centers in the area.
The reaction of the population
The tremor, although of moderate intensity, was clearly felt by residents of several neighboring municipalities. Within a few moments, some apprehension spread among citizens, who clearly felt the tremor even in the absence of collapses or obvious damage. This episode once again reminds us of the seismic fragility of Calabria, a region in which dynamics of this type are part of the regular geological activity of the subsoil.
The checks and the first findings
From the first checks carried out, fortunately no consequences to people or structures have been reported. The local authorities immediately took action to monitor the situation and exclude any critical issues, but so far the balance does not show any material damage. The situation therefore remains under control, despite the initial scare and the widespread perception of the earthquake in the various municipalities.
