The mayor, Nicola Fiorita, has proclaimed the mourning for today, Tuesday 29 July 2025, the day on which the funeral of Emanuele Scafidi and the daughter Giorgia will be celebrated in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, who died in the tragic road accident last Sunday. The city mourning is proclaimed from 16.30 and until the end of the funeral. The mayor and the municipal administration invite citizenship to tighten around the family in the moment of immeasurable pain.
A violent impact that has left no escape. Emanuele Scafidi, 35 years old, and his 8 -year -old daughter died on the asphalt of the southern suburbs of Catanzaro. A tragedy that left the entire city community dismay.
Emanuele Scafidi was well known in the city also for his pizza maker work. “A friend, a schoolmate, a good boy with whom I shared the best years of my life”, so the city councilor Antonio Barberio describes him on a post on Facebook. But there were dozens of condolence messages for the two lives broken on a suburban road.
The accident took place on Viale Emilia the road that connects the districts Santa Maria and Barone. The 18 were just passed when, for reasons still in the assessment phase, the golf on which father and daughter traveled collided with a panda with two boys on board. In the impact the 35 -year -old and his little girl were thrown out of the passenger compartment. The impact with the asphalt was fatal for the man.
The rescuers have tried desperately to revive the little girl but unfortunately their efforts were without outcome. The occupants of the other car involved were instead transported to the emergency room of the Apulian hospital in Catanzaro where they were subjected to the necessary investigations. The two wounded, however, according to what has been possible to learn, would not be in danger of life. In addition to the 118 health workers, the firefighters of the Provincial Command assisted by colleagues from Sellia Marina intervened at the scene of the accident. Their intervention made itself necessary to secure the area after a loss of petrol had been ascertained by one of the cars involved in the clash. The patrols of the carabinieri also intervened, but the reliefs of the Municipal Police carried out the reliefs. It will be up to them to collect the elements necessary to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the tragic accident.
The operations have lasted for a long time also causing slowdowns to city traffic. The Public Prosecutor’s Office that opened a file was informed of what happened. The cars involved will remain available to the Authority, while the corpses have been transferred to the organ of the Germaneto Polyclinic. It will be understood in the next few hours if the autopsy exam will be arranged before returning the bodies to the family for the celebration of the funeral.
