Simona Quadarella scores a hat-trick and writes other pages in the history of international swimming. The Italian won the 400 freestyle on the last day of the European Championships in Paris. Simona clocked 4’01″34, a new record of the event. Silver went to the German Isabel Gose (4’02″41), bronze went to the other Teutonic Maya Werner (4’03″73). For the champion from Rome, this was the third victory in the waters of the Olympic Aquatic Center after those in the 1500 and 800 freestyle. The representative of the Circolo Canottieri Aniene achieved her third hat-trick 400-800-1500 at the continental event after Glasgow 2018 and Budapest 2021

A joke instead for Thomas Ceccon with silver medal in the 100m backstroke in Paris. The Italian swims in 52″28, just one hundredth behind the Greek Apostolos Christou, gold. Bronze goes to the Russian Pavel Samusenko. And also a joke for Benedetta Pilato who won the silver medal in the 50m breaststroke. The Italian at the Olympic Aquatic Center in the French capital reached 29″94, just one hundredth from the winner, the Lithuanian champion Ruta Meilutyte (29″93). Bronze to the Irish Mona Mc Sharry (29″95). “This hundredth haunts me in this place. I’m happy, because for me swimming three times under 30″ is important. It is certainly the beginning of a journey. I would have liked to win, but that’s okay. I changed everything this year”. Thus Benedetta Pilato after the silver in the 50m breaststroke at the European Swimming Championships underway in Paris. At the 2024 Games, again in the French capital, the Italian had missed the podium in the 100m breaststroke by just one hundredth.
