From 19 to 24 September 2025 Lignano Sabbiadoro will host the Epf Nations Cup – European Powerchair Football Championship for the first time, the maximum continental competition of the discipline. Ten national teams, divided into two groups. Italy, inserted in group B with England, Denmark, Scotland and Ireland, will debut on Friday 19 against Denmark. The goal is to conquer a place among the top five to obtain the qualification for the 2026 world championship that will take place in Argentina.
To lead the selection is the coach Marco Ferrazza, who will be able to count on a mix of experience and new talents. For the first time the Azzurri will dress the official jersey of the national football team, a signal of full integration into the FIGC world. Among the called Irene Infantino, Palermo and the only representative of the Italian national team. Captain of the “Red Cobra Palermo”, Infantino was elected best athlete of the final stages of the Italian championship for three consecutive years (2023, 2024 and 2025). A constantly growing career that has made it a reference point for companions and teammates, as well as female face face of the discipline at national level.
“The Powerchair Football taught me to give the maximum under pressure and to believe more in my skills,” says Infantino. “It is a sport that combines competition and inclusion, where strategy, timing and team game count”. The European Championship of Lignano represents a historical moment for the Italian movement, increasingly structured and recognized.
