Even Ema didn’t make it. The 10-year-old girl, the last survivor of the family of Slovenian tourists burned in the explosion of the B&B in Mileto, died at the burn center in Bari. The toll rises to three victims: first her father, Izidor, who died in Palermo, then her mother, Petra, who died in Catania.

The tragedy occurred around 8.30pm on August 25th. According to an initial reconstruction, the three were preparing to have dinner when an explosion occurred, perhaps caused by a cylinder. After the explosion, they left the apartment partly engulfed in flames, seeking shelter towards the swimming pool: two off-duty carabinieri who were staying in the structure also came to their aid. Investigations into the causes continue.

«The budget is getting worse and the situation is becoming more and more tragic. I feel the pain of the victims’ families”, said the mayor Salvatore Fortunato Giordano after Petra’s death. In Mileto, in recent days, moments of prayer were held for the family.
