Explosives alert near base in Great Britain used by the USA: several arrests and area evacuated

Several people were arrested and some homes evacuated in the Whelford area, in the county of Gloucestershire, England, following an explosives alert after a serious incident was reported near an RAF air base used by the United States. Police said the men were taken into custody on suspicion of breaching the Explosives Act in connection with the incident near RAF Fairford. The army’s specialized team for explosive ordnance disposal intervened on site and is examining some vehicles. Armed police officers man the security perimeter set up near the village of Whelford. A massive presence of emergency services was reported in the area, including a specialized team for interventions in risk areas. Gloucestershire Police have meanwhile issued a statement saying they believe the incident is “contained”
