Evening and night patrols intensified as part of the coordinated control of the territory, under the auspices of the Prefecture of Catanzaro, allowed the carabinieri to prevent a huge theft inside the ancient Feroleto power plant on the night of 11 September.
The blitz
A crew of the Nor Radio Section of Lamezia Terme, together with the soldiers of the Pianopoli station, intervened in a few minutes after a report at 112: four people with the covered face had been seen inside the electrode area. The arrival of the patrols interrupted the ongoing action: recovered three copper coils, already loaded on a van, for a total weight of 53 quintals and a value of over 60 thousand euros. The authors managed to escape.
Investigations and prevention
The investigations, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor of Lamezia Terme, are underway to identify those responsible for the attempted theft. The weapon relaunches the importance of “participatory security”: equipping yourself with video surveillance and alarm systems connected to the unique response plants can act as a deterrent and constitute a useful investigative tool.
