Week of mid -August in the name of safety in the plain of Gioia Tauro, where the carabinieri have put in place an imposing extraordinary device of control of the territory. The activity, organized to guarantee order and tranquility in conjunction with patronal feasts, major events and the massive influx of tourists, has affected a vast area, from the seaside resorts to the villages of Aspromonte.
The attention of the military has focused mainly on the places that recorded thousands of appearances. In San Ferdinando, as per tradition, hundreds of young people gathered on the beach for the midnight bath that precedes Ferragosto. Here the carabinieri carried out widespread checks, referring two people who refused to provide their personal details and denouncing a prejudiced found in possession of a long blade knife.
The aerial contribution of the 8th helicopter nucleus of Vibo Valentia is also decisive, which has monitored the most popular mountain areas from above in these days of torrid heat. In Zomaro, Trepitò and Zervò, the military intervened promptly in multiple critical situations, such as the fight that broke out for the use of a municipal barbecue along the provincial road: four people have been reported.
On the traffic front, the controls along the main arteries led to the complaint of 15 motorists for driving in a state of intoxication, two of which are also positive results for the use of drugs. Over 160 administrative penalties for violations of the Highway Code have also been raised, for a total of more than 56 thousand euros.
The operation, which involved all the joints dependent on the Carabinieri Group of Gioia Tauro, made it possible to strengthen the perception of safety between citizens and visitors, guaranteeing the peaceful development of the celebrations and the moments of aggregation on the occasion of the Ferragosto.
