A vast fire reduced the roof of a building to ash in the Trodio district of Palmi, on the northern outskirts of the town of Reggino. According to initial information, some roof renovation work was underway inside the building when the fire broke out, perhaps due to the use of a blowtorch. The flames affected the upper part of the structure, with a dense column of smoke visible even from a distance. Two elderly women were rescued by the firefighters of the Palmi detachment, but they could do nothing against the flames, which were put out only after a few hours. Some witnesses claim that the Palmi firefighters would have had to wait for the arrival of a ladder from Reggio Calabria before being able to intervene on the roof. The news has not been confirmed.
