In today’s afternoon, a new meeting dedicated to taking stock of the fire situation, following the events that in the last few days hit the hills close to the inhabited centers of some towns of the Upper Jonio Reggio, took place in Reggio Calabria, chaired by the prefect Clara Vaccaro, in the context of an environmental context that requires constant care and attention. “During the meeting, which – reads a note – saw the participation of the main institutional actors involved in the Boschivo anti -fire campaign (AIB) – mayors of the municipalities of the coordination centers of the area, law enforcement, firefighters, regional and metropolitan civil protection, Calabria Verde Calabria company, Aspromonte National Park Authority, Anas, RFI – an analysis was carried out on the trend of the phenomenon and the methods and conditions the latest incendiary events developed ».

In this context, the prefect highlighted “the existence of factors that testify to the importance of a coordinated and timely response, reiterating the unavoidable need for a joint effort for the common objective of safeguarding the territory. In addition to promoting the further intensification of the controls, the prefect – explains the note – underlined the crucial role of the prevention activities and the need to involve communities in the protection of the environment, promoting a cultural change that sees the citizen guardian of his territory. In the conviction that the contribution of each passes through the knowledge of the risks and the observance of behavior useful to prevent fires, the prefect then invited the mayors to carry out an adequate awareness of its citizens, to ensure that they will clean the land and mark their conduct to the rigorous respect for the correct rules of conduct for the protection of the environment “.

For its part, the prefect said “that he will again sensitize bodies and managers of infrastructure on the necessary measures to be adopted to guarantee full protection of the territory and its cultural and environmental heritage. All the bodies involved – reports the note – have ensured the maximum commitment to operate in synergy for the common objective of the fight against fire and also shared the importance of the culture of prevention as a value to be promoted to ensure that each citizen becomes, to an always increasing extent, an active part in the protection of the environmental heritage “.
