A well-attended flash mob brought together many League militants and citizens to say “Yes to the Strait Bridge, don’t steal our future”. Since 7pm today, demonstrations have continued in Messina to ensure that the infrastructure is not blocked. “Thirteen and a half billion to build the Bridge over the Strait – declares Senator Nino Germanà, regional secretary of the League – is the largest investment in a single work that Italy is supporting at the moment. The Bridge will be built because the determination of the Government and Parliament is clear and we reiterate it also after the opinion of the Court of Auditors. Sicily and Calabria – he continues – need this work which will connect the South to the rest of the country, in a continental logic. Matteo Salvini – concludes Germanà – has our full support and that of the Sicilians who made the center-right win both in Rome and in Sicily by voting for an electoral program that contained the Bridge over the Strait. We can give up more than 100 thousand jobs, direct and indirect, which will be created thanks to the work and management of the Bridge”.
The flash mob in Messina, another one was being held in Reggio Calabria at the same time, anticipated the extraordinary meeting of the provincial board of the League for Salvini, prime minister of Messina. The works were opened by the provincial commissioner Davide Paratore who observed a minute’s silence for Giuseppe Di Dio, the young man who died in Capizzi due to a crazy act. “We ask for justice – said Paratore -. A young life cannot be broken like this, we hope that the murderer and his associates will be tried and sentenced to the maximum sentence soon”.
The “parliament” of the Messina League, in which many mayors and local administrators of the province took part, also took stock of the new membership campaign. The regional deputy Pippo Laccoto, president of the Health Commission of the Sicilian parliament, reiterated that “it is necessary to organize the League in a widespread manner throughout the territory. An extraordinary membership phase must be started – said Laccoto – to quickly arrive at a conference season”.
On the Bridge and on the infrastructures, such as railways, ports, airports, roads and motorways, planned in Sicily thanks to an overall investment by the Ministry of Transport which exceeds 60 billion euros between Sicily and Calabria, the regional manager of the League for Local Authorities Matteo Francilia, mayor of Furci Siculo, spoke, while the provincial manager of Local Authorities of the League, Salvatore Castrovinci, mayor of Torrenova, underlined that “thanks to the Bridge, connection works will be carried out which will return to the territory of the province of Messina modern infrastructure, starting from the new Strait metro which will have three stations in Messina”.
