The first meeting of the Technical Committee in charge of assessing the feasibility of the realization, in the port area of Gioia Tauro, of the DRI pole intended to guarantee the procurement of pre -labor for the national production of Green steel, as well as to deepen the issues related to the supply of natural gas essential to the operation of the system, took place.
The Technical Committee was established on the initiative of the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, following the institutional visit of 4 August at the Port and Return of Gioia Tauro, together with the president of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, the mayors of Gioia Tauro, Simona Scarcella, and San Ferdinando, Luca Gaetano, and other local authorities.
During the comparison, several strategic aspects of the site were analyzed, including logistical, productive and energy potential. At the end of the meeting, the parties have agreed to start further technical insights, whose results will be shared in a new meeting of the Committee that will be convened by the end of the month. The meeting was attended by the technicians of Mimit and Mase, of the Calabria Region and the local authorities concerned, the representatives of Snam, the port system authority, the extraordinary commissioner of the government for the Single Zes, as well as the extraordinary commissioners of Ilva and Adi in AS.
“The hypothesis so far under consideration, and I repeat that it is only a hypothesis, it would be a virtuous and decisive response”. This was stated by the mayor of San Ferdinando (Reggio Calabria), Luca Gaetano. “One response – he adds – compared to the underdevelopment conditions of the retroportual area which, despite the presence of a stopover that represents a decisive competitive factor for the Italian system, has never made that shot necessary to express the intrinsic potential of the area and enhance the numerous material and immaterial assets of which the territory has. The institutional convergence in progress, in addition to the Apulian political diatribes that question Taranto’s investments, should be seen as a great opportunity and would be desirable, even if utopian, that public dialectic developed on the merits of the events and supported local administrators rather than fearing apocalyptic scenarios based on incorrect presuppositions “.
“An investment of the genre, in addition to guaranteeing – concludes the mayor – stable occupation and lasting growth, would configure the territory as a national leader for the production of high quality steel nation for the sectors of the erospace, defense, agri -food, automotive and advanced hydraulics. We wait to see what will happen to Taranto and verify the real feasibility of the intervention in Calabria, after which we will be extremely available to any comparison and to transpire any observation ».
