Andrea Kimi Antonelli accomplishes a historic feat in front of the Italian fans. The Mercedes driver from Emilia, starting from the nineteenth spot, following a penalty, was the protagonist of an exceptional comeback and triumphed in the 2026 Italian Formula Grand Prix. The last success of an Italian in Monza was sixty years ago: in 1966 Ludovico Scarfiotti won. Now there are four Italian drivers who have triumphed in Monza, including Alberto Ascari and Nino Farina.

Formula 1 doesn’t stop: it will immediately return to the track next week in Madrid for the Spanish Grand Prix with Antonelli increasingly leading the world championship drivers’ standings.

It wasn’t easy, but it’s great to have won”, continues the World Championship leader, who consolidates his dominance in the standings, moving up to +66 on teammate George Russell. Antonelli is the youngest ever to triumph in Monza; he is the most successful Italian in the history of Formula 1 and is the first to triumph at the Italian Grand Prix starting from so far away (19th on the starting grid).
