A museum of narration: a multimedia exhibition in the history of Syracuse. Six Syracusans who tell the city of Unesco heritage. “Syramuse” is the space that, through immersive and interactive paths, tells the capital of Magna Grecia: Santa Lucia, Aeschylus, Caravaggio, Archimedes, Plato, Paolo Orsi, Federico II and Enzo Majorca will lead the visitor on a journey in history, crossing different rooms where by wearing a cap you can travel in time.
From October the exhibition will be equipped with tools that allow any audience, even with cognitive and sensory differences, to access the museum. There are already about 1800 people who have visited Syramuse in a month: those responsible have found a series of solutions that break down any barrier: there will be tablets for the deaf or facilitated texts for people with cognitive difficulties.
“Syramuse” is the first example in Sicily of public-private partnership, a formula provided for by the contract code in the cultural heritage sector. The new Civic Museum, also born thanks to the collaboration between the Institute for Sports Credit and Civita Sicilia, was created in the former Montevergini Art Gallery adjacent to Piazza Duomo. “Our ambition is to invite to deepen the places thanks to these characters – said Renata Sansone, CEO of Civita Sicilia -: why did the Greeks have chosen this island? Why did Plato come three times to affirm the importance of the Republic with tyrants? This is a land that made history. A project in four languages (beyond Italian). Starting from the most distant and more recent historical contents, we wanted to stimulate a reflection on great topical issues such as violence against women and the protection of the environment with the ambition to contribute to sustainable tourism “.
“Syracuse – said the mayor Francesco Italia – is the forerunner of a path in the cultural heritage sector which for Sicily is an absolute novelty”.
“Syramuse” is divided into six thematic areas: the light and the appearance with the immersion in Caravaggio’s work “burial by Santa Lucia”; the science that returns life and works of the Syracusan Archimedes, one of the most brilliant figures from antiquity to today; The theater and the political tribune where actor and technologies interpretation, within a scenography that follows the Greek theater, allow to be in the presence of Plato and Aeschylus; The excavation in which, guided by the great archaeologist Paolo Orsi, you live in first person a playful-explosive experience; The flight of the hawk, inspiration to Frederick II, expert in falconry, to return a poetic interpretation of his inheritance; The deep blue, a tribute to the sea and a reflection on the themes of his safeguard entrusted to an environmentalist such as the great apnea champion Enzo Majorca.
The new museum space was edited by Civita Sicilia with the support of the museologist and historical art of art Anna Villari, which explains: «The technologies and images to support the narrative. The protagonists speak personally, a direct dialogue with the viewer is created. It is the story that speaks to the visitor ».
In the courtyard of the museum, the Roman artist Claudio Palmieri imagined the space as a small theater with a tribute to seafaring traditions but also to the vision of Enzo Majorca and his commitment for the defense of the marine ecosystem, green, eco -sustainable.
