From Reggio to Crotone, 79 Municipalities to vote: the “closing” of the lists at 12pm

In Reggio there will be a four-way challenge for the mayor’s seat: Francesco Cannizzaro leads the centre-right; Mimmo Battaglia the centre-left; Eduardo Lamberti-Castronuovo is at the head of Polo Civico and Saverio Pazzano tries again with “La Strada”. On a strictly numerical level, after 12 years of centre-left administration, the numbers lead one to think that Cannizzaro is the logical favourite. The regional secretary of FI, in fact, has set up a “joyful war machine” made up of 12 lists, exactly double those built by the centre-left (the M5S list was unjustified) which supports the acting mayor Battaglia. Between the victory in the first round and the possible run-off there are “La Strada” (an authentically left-wing movement) of Saverio Pazzano and the Polo Civico of Lamberti-Castronuovo which aims to intercept the vote of the dissatisfied and above all of those who no longer recognize themselves in these parties and in an “empty” politics made up of slogans and announcements.

Crotone here

A three-way battle is looming for the mayor’s seat of Crotone in the May 24-25 elections, although the surprise of a fourth contender cannot be ruled out. On the one hand, in fact, there is the outgoing Vincenzo Voce who is looking for confirmation after the unexpected victory obtained in 2020. On the other, the challengers: Giuseppe Trocino and Fabrizio Meo. Voce will be able to count on the support of six lists of candidates to become city councilors. Three of these directly report to him: “Growing up”, “Together” and “Let’s valorise Crotone”; then there is “Progetto in Comune Kr” led by municipal councilor Antonio Megna; and finally the other two groupings – Fratelli d’Italia and Forza Italia together with Libertà è Democracy – which represent the centre-right. Who, compared to six years ago, has decided to take the side of the mayor. Instead, Trocino will compete for the center-left and will have the support of four lists: “For our Crotone”, which refers to Trocino himself; M5S; Democratic Party; and “Crotone future city”. Finally, there is the opposition city councilor Fabrizio Meo who chose the solo race with “Rights and Health”. In the last few hours the hypothesis of a fourth candidate, Vito Barresi, has become insistent. (an.mo.)

In the Cosentino

The army of candidates for municipal councilor supporting the four Castrovillari candidates should be slightly reduced. Of the initial sixteen lists – barring last minute surprises – fourteen should remain in the running. Yesterday morning the lawyer Luca Donadio presented the first three. Doubts about the team that will support Anna De Gaio’s centre-right, for which a gap of between seven and five is expected. The candidacy of the lawyer Ernesto Bello originally included four reference lists, while from the latest rumors they stood at three. Few problems, however, for Eugenio Salerno, stuck on a list and an electoral path born only in recent weeks.
In San Giovanni in Fiore, however, there is no doubt about the line-up: a contingent of ten lists, which will support Marco Ambrogio. It is difficult until this afternoon to predict the teams that will support the antagonists Luigi Candalise Antonio Barile, Giuseppe Belcastro and Stefania Fratto.
A few weeks after the vote in Castrolibero, a three-way race is emerging, in a lively political climate marked by recent divisions. Outgoing councillor, Nicoletta Perrotti leads the “Civic Rebirth” list, supported by important figures such as Orlandino Greco, four times mayor and now regional councilor. Francesco Serra, however, is supported by the DPM and civic groups. Acting after the decline of Greco, Serra made his candidacy official supported by the regional councilor Francesco De Cicco and by lists such as “Dpm”, “Castrolibero nel Cuore” and “Progetto CastroLibera”. Finally, Pasquale Villella, with “Cambia-Menti”, proposes a clear discontinuity compared to the management of recent decades.

The other municipalities

Among the 79 municipalities voting, there is the possibility of a run-off only in Palmi, where Francesco Cardone and Giovanni Calabria will face each other. Instead, we will vote with the majority system in Cirò Marina and Taurianova, centers just below the threshold of 15,000 residents. Waiting for the vote in Platì, where there could be three candidates. As in all the others, even in the small pre-Aspromonte town we will know more at 12 today, the deadline for submitting the lists.
