The beauty and memory at the Antico Theater of Taormina, on September 6, with a bright moon to shine on the second evening in honor of the master’s centenary (and the moon is in the historical novel “The revolution of the moon”, rebuilt in 2025 by Sellerio). And to make the thoughts play, the beautiful music composed by Franco Piersanti for the TV series “The Commissioner Montalbano”, impeccably performed by the Orchestra of the Vittorio Emanuele Theater of Messina: harmonic weaves of great intensity with the poetry of the arches to repeat the themes of Montalbano, to accompany the tenderness, the doubts, the memories-skulls, the dramatic turns of the commissioner’s investigations.
Music and words as a building, the theater, the right place to be in front of the show “Camilleri in the mirror” with Sonia Bergamasco, Alessio Boni, Donatella Finocchiaro, Massimo Venturiello, actors of the TV series that have given voice to the feeling of Camilleri towards life, writing, civil and human commitment. The master has been told since, child, at the time of the bundle, he begins to write poems to get to prose around 17/18 years. «But the exercise to write was long and tiring. Many think that my Vigatese is a little Sicilian, a little Italian, in short, a sort of cassata ». Not to mention the detective on which the teacher committed himself for an exercise of discipline. “When I wrote I started from the red of the egg and then around I put the white and instead, as Sciascia said, the detective is a cage, it requires temporal and spatial continuity”.
The result was the first novel with Montalbano that Camilleri wanted a man of the institutions but also a little “borderline, a little lone wolf, a carabiniere not, too rigid, but a public security commissioner yes, morally honest but without the gun in his pocket”. “Being director, I see the characters walking on the street, leaping from the chair, and I Montalbano saw him get up from the page, but then Montalbano drew me because not only he sold but was the forerunner carrying other novels”. So much to become a person as a character who was, to direct the many letters of readers and readers (the women had it with Livia, “that he was in Boccadasse”)) “no longer his, but ours- as a reader wrote- and therefore he stops doing politics (communist)”.
Memories and lessons, the beauty and memory to say enough to the genocides, enough to the wars, so the master would certainly have wanted, as Felice Laudadio recalled who, after reading the message of President Mattarella on the “cultural legacy of a multifaceted author like Camilleri”, mentioned the special number of Micromega “Tutto Camilleri” with the complete collection of articles written by the master for the magazine.
A perfect conclusion for an exciting season, said Sergio Bonomo and Gianna Fratta, respectively extraordinary commissioner and artistic director of Taormina Arte. Thanks for those who made the realization of these two special evenings possible: Elvira Amata and the Tourism Department of the Sicilian Region, Felice Pianebianco, Superintendent of the Taormina Arte Sicilia Foundation, the Archaeological Park Naxos Taormina and its director Orazio Micalali, and for Orazio Miloro, Gianfranco Scoglio and Matteo Pappalardo of the Teatro Vittorio of Messina.
