Today the carabinieri notified three orders of pre -trial detention against as many suspects, already detained for other judicial events, considered involved in the murder of Giuseppe Gaetani, which took place in Cassano Alla Ionio (CS) on the evening of December 2, 2020.
The provision, issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Catanzaro at the request of the District Anti -Mafia Directorate and notified in the prisons of Cuneo, Novara and Lanciano (CH), hypothesizes the crimes of premeditated murder, detention and abusive port of war weapons and municipalities from a shot, with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia purpose.
The investigations
The investigation, conducted by the investigative nucleus of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Cosenza and coordinated by the DDA of Catanzaro, started from the declarations of two collaborators of justice. Their words made it possible to reconstruct the circumstances in which the Gaetani was killed: the man, aboard his car and close to his home, was reached by several pistol shots exploded by a commando who arrived on a van.
Investigators, through documentary feedback and the analysis of previous strands of investigation, collected serious indications against the three suspects: two of them would have participated in the crime planning, while the third would have provided logistical support before and after the ambush. Among the collaborators of justice, on the other hand, there is the one who self -accusing himself as a material performer of the murder, in competition with other accomplices currently unidentified.
The mafia matrix
According to the investigators, the Gaetani murder is part of the wider criminal strategy of the Abbruzzese and Forastefano gangs, active in the Sibaritide and determined to affirm their hegemony in the Sibari plain.
