Premier Giorgia Meloni, speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, announced that the majority will present a motion for the recognition of Palestine but subject to the liberation of the hostages and exclusion of Hamas da Gaza.
Meloni hoped that the opposition also supports it. “I personally – explained Meloni – I continue to consider that the recognition of Palestine in the absence of a state that has the requirements of sovereignty does not solve the problem, does not produce tangible results, concrete for the Palestinians. After that, however, it is said that the recognition of Palestine can be an effective tool for political pressure and it is fine, I understand, but we must also understand on whom.
I think that the main political pressure should be made towards Hamas because it is Hamas who started this war and is Hamas that prevents the war from ends up refusing to deliver the hostages ».
The premier has therefore announced that “the majority will present in the classroom a motion to say that the recognition of Palestine must be subject to two conditions: the release of the hostages and obviously the exclusion of Hamas from any government dynamics within Palestine, because we must understand what the priorities are. I am not against the recognition of Palestine, but we must give us the right priorities ».
“I think that such an initiative – he hoped – can also find the consent of the opposition, certainly does not find the consent of Hamas, perhaps does not find the consent from the Islamist extremists, but should find consensus in people of common sense”.
