His desk has been empty for two years, but yesterday his name still reached the maturity milestone. A symbolic diploma was awarded to the ITT “Majorana” in Milazzo in memory of Giuseppe Carauddo, the student who died at the age of just 16 in a tragic road accident. It was his mother who collected it during an emotional ceremony attended by classmates, teachers and family members.
The symbolic diploma
In recent days Giuseppe’s class has concluded their school career by passing the state exam. A goal that he too should have shared. For this reason the school wanted to reserve a special moment for him, remembering him on the day that would have marked the end of his journey through the classroom.
«There are goals that can be reached with one step. And others who can be reached with the heart”, reads the message published by the institute on social media. «Today, at the end of the final exams, Giuseppe Carauddo’s class found itself united once again. Because this should have been his day too. Two years ago his smile faded too soon, but the memory of Giuseppe has never left these classrooms, his classmates, his teachers.”
The ceremony
The mother was given a plaque that symbolically reproduces the diploma that Giuseppe would have received, together with a photograph of the family. A simple gesture but with a strong emotional value, accompanied by long applause.
At the end of the ceremony, the classmates let some balloons with the young student’s face fly into the sky. A moment of contemplation and emotion that united tears, hugs and memories.
The message from the school
«Hello Giuseppe. Today, together with your classmates, your name also crossed the finish line”, concludes the school’s message. A greeting that contains the meaning of a day in which the school community wanted to reiterate that time can ease the pain, but does not erase the memory.
