The ‘San Giovanni di Dio hospital of Crotone will also have a cradle for life. This was deliberated by the extraordinary commissioner of the Asp of Crotone, Monica Calamai. Life cradles are protected spaces, easily accessible, in which a mother can leave its newborn in total anonymity, with the certainty that it will receive immediate and affection. Equipped with heating, security system, direct connection with the neonatal emergency room and a garrison active 24 hours a day, they represent a safe and human response for those who are in the impossibility of taking care of the newborn child.
As stated in the project attached to the resolution of Commissioner Calamai, in Crotone the cot for life will be placed in the area in front of the access of the hot room of the emergency room of the San Giovanni di Dio hospital, in an area that are not popular to guarantee confidentiality. The structure will be in masonry, air -conditioned and equipped with a thermoculla always heated and powered by a system of electrical continuity. The opening of the roller shutter activates an acoustic alarm connected to the neonatology/intensive neonatal therapy department and supervision. A camera, oriented only towards the newborn, guarantees that the face of the person who deposits the child is never resumed. After the alarm, the medical staff intervenes in a few moments to provide assistance and transfer the baby to the ward, starting the birth procedure and reporting to the Juvenile Court.
