The Railway Police of Salerno, in collaboration with the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Girifalco, arrested a man of Ukrainian origin in the act, residing in Campania, on charges of aggravated fraud in competition against an elderly from Girifalco.
According to what was reconstructed by the investigators, the man would have contacted the victim by phone, a widow who lives alone, pretending to be a carabiniere. He would have told her that the son had been involved in a serious road accident and that it was necessary to deliver a sum of money to compensate the injured counterpart. Shortly thereafter, he would have presented himself to the door to collect what was requested.
Taking advantage of the woman’s vulnerability, the alleged scammer made himself delivered 400 euros in cash and various jewels, including the victim’s wedding faith, before leaving.
The woman, realizing the scam, warned the carabinieri, who immediately started the investigations, managing to trace the man while moving by train to Campania. Thanks to the coordination between the police, he was stopped in Salerno by Polfer’s agents, who recovered the entire stolen goods.
At the outcome of the very direct judgment, a precautionary measure in prison was ordered against the man. The procedure is currently located in the preliminary investigation phase.
