Marina Calatozzo, 82, the woman who lost her life when hit by a car on state road 114, was crossing the road to go home. The accident occurred around midday in Mili Marina on the stretch that runs under the motorway bridge, near her home. Driving the small car was a 90-year-old originally from Scaletta.
It all happened in a few moments, the impact was violent, the woman was thrown a few meters away, her body remained lifeless on the asphalt, just ahead of the shopping bags. The motorist, who was driving a red Chevrolet, stopped and tried to provide first aid. In the meantime, an ambulance was called, but when the 118 rescuers arrived it was too late for the old woman. Attempts to resuscitate her were futile, and the ambulance operators were unable to do anything other than confirm the woman’s death. In the meantime, the lane in which the accident occurred has been cordoned off to allow for investigations. The dynamics of the accident are now being examined by the officers of the accident section of the municipal police who are reconstructing the phases of the collision, investigations which will end up in a report to be submitted to the magistrate who coordinates the investigations into the accident. In the meantime, several people have been interviewed. It is to be checked whether surveillance cameras are installed in that area which may have recorded the accident or some phases.
