Massive damage to Calabrian agriculture after cyclone Harry2. From the Calabria Region the request for recognition of the state of natural disaster to deal with the serious consequences of the wave of bad weather which hit vast areas of the regional territory in recent days.
The hurricane caused extensive damage to farms, hitting production facilities and company infrastructure, with serious repercussions on the local rural economy.
Request for a state of disaster and support measures
The request for a state of disaster is aimed at allowing the activation of the support interventions provided for by current legislation. In particular, pursuant to Ministerial Decree no. 102/2004, damaged agricultural companies will be able to access compensation measures for the structural damage suffered.

“We are faced with significant damage that puts the production continuity of many Calabrian farms at risk – declared the regional councilor Gianluca Gallo -. The Region took prompt action to request a state of calamity, so that the affected farmers can obtain the compensation provided for by law and start the recovery of the damaged structures as soon as possible. We will not leave our farmers alone in this moment of difficulty”.

The Agriculture, internal areas and territorial connection policies department is already working to complete the damage survey and to provide the necessary support to operators in the agricultural sector, severely affected by extreme weather events.
