A magnitude 5.6 earthquake has been recorded off the coast of Indonesia. This was announced by the INGV, National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. The quake occurred at 2:46 am Italian time. The hypocenter is at a depth of 18 kilometers. No tsunami warning was issued. The quake comes two days after the region was hit by a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake which caused 53 deaths, 137 injuries and more than 5,000 displaced people.
Indonesia is located on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of high seismic and volcanic activity where around 7,000 earthquakes are recorded every year, most of which are of moderate intensity.
