The comparison promoted by Unindustria Calabria with candidates for the presidency of the Region was an opportunity to bring the most urgent issues to the business world to the attention of politics.

Among the protagonists of the meeting, Roberto Rugna, president of Ance Calabria, and Giovan Battista Perciaccante, Ance national vice president with delegation in the South and president of Confindustria Cosenza, have asked the table on the table that, for years, have representing real unresolved nodes for the growth of the territory.

President Rugna has placed the landscape plan at the center of the debate. «In Calabria – he explained – we find ourselves in an impasse that blocks any perspective of development. A clear regulation is needed, which allows to intervene on the properties built in areas that have become bound only later. It has already been done elsewhere, with the green light of the same lawyer of the state: we cannot remain still ».

Rugna then turned on the spotlight on the quarries, a sector strictly connected to the opening of large construction sites such as the new 106 Jonica and the railway interventions. “If the regional observatory is not immediately activated – he warned – we risk finding ourselves with stopped or slowed works. It is an urgency that must be faced yesterday than today ».

The intervention of Perciaccante touched the heart of the great infrastructures and connections. “We cannot speak of development without infrastructure,” he said, recalling the disadvantaged condition of the Calabrian industrial areas, often without essential and reduced services in a state of abandonment. His reasoning then moved to the ports, with a direct reference to that of Corigliano, who could have become a strategic hub and which instead, after decades, remains underutilized. “It is unacceptable – he underlined – that a structure with enormous potential is used only for the transport of hidden or waste. We need a serious relaunch plan, which also looks to cruise traffic and which enhances the many small companies in the adjacent industrial area ».

The discussion has expanded to other mobility issues: the state road 106, the connections with airports, the strengthening of the railway network and the arrival of high speed up to Reggio Calabria. There was a passage on the bridge over the Strait, seen as a work that can connect Calabria and Sicily to the rest of the country and Europe. “For companies – added Periaccante – the connections are not an optional, but a necessary condition to compete”.

The request to the Occhiuto and Tridico candidates was clear: enough with the slogans, precise commitments and certain times are needed.

The comparison highlighted how much the world of Calabrian companies does not ask for generic promises, but a strategic vision capable of transforming the weaknesses of the territory into a development levers. Rugna and Perciaccante have strongly reiterated that without a decisive action on material and intangible infrastructures, Calabria will continue to remain on the margins.
