The investigation on botulinum intoxication continues, which took place in Diamante last August. Two people died and over 20 had been hospitalized for intoxication after eating a sandwich with “friarielli” purchased by a street vendor on the diamond promenade. The documentation relating to the investigations of the ASP of Salerno was acquired, carried out in a production plant in Scafati. From these checks emerges “significant non-conformity” both on self-control procedures and on the hygienic-sanitary conditions of structure and equipment, with risk assessment characterized by “danger of biological contamination during processing”.
Among the highlighted deficiencies it emerges that the company “used an area outside the laboratory exposed to environmental conditions, as a place for the storage of the raw materials of its own and semi -finished production of third parties, without registering the relative differentiation in the secondary processing phase”. Furthermore, “it did not document dosage and measurements of the solutions used for the acidification of raw materials during the washing and preparation phases, nor the monitoring of the temperature of thermal pre -treatment for food. And “he did not storage the finished product within premises lacking the hygienic-sanitary requirements and devices of devices for the fight against weeds”.
The ASP inspectors also acquired the documentation relating to the inspections and inspections made in a distribution establishment of the “broccoli”, the broccoli under the contaminated food. Checks on the material seized in the Foodtruck also continue. There are several people investigated in the context of this complex investigation coordinated by the chief prosecutor of Paola, Domenico Fiordalisi.
