It was published by the structure for the contrast of the hydrogeological instability, which belongs to the president of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani, the tender for the safety and hydraulic regimentation of the slope upstream of the inhabited center in the municipality of Itala, in the province of Messina. The tender amount is 2 million euros and the offices, directed by Sergio Tumminello, set the deadline for the presentation of the offers next September 15.
Thus starts the conclusion a story that was a reason for constant concern. In fact, in the residents the memory of the flood and landslide of October 2009 is still alive, which caused important damage to private homes, road arteries and public infrastructures. A dangerous situation that has aggravated, over time, for the persistent water infiltrations on a very vulnerable side and subject to landslide movements.
The aim of the intervention is to mitigate the hydraulic risk through the construction of guard ditches in geocomposite for the collection of rainwater that flow on the surface, in correspondence with the slopes, in order to convey them in the natural impluvi. The project provides for the arrangement of the shores with some gabbaryate and the location of flexible barriers to stop any debris flows. Steel networks will also be positioned in correspondence with the buildings that are downstream.
