Italy triumphs to the European Sitting Volleyball: Holland beaten in the final, gold thanks to the Calabrian Raffaela Battaglia

Another feat for the women’s national team of Sitting Volley, who conquered the European title in Gyor, Hungary, overcoming Holland with a clear 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-14) in the final. For Italy it is the second consecutive gold, after that obtained in 2023 in Caorle.

A success built through an impeccable path: seven wins out of seven meetings and no lost sets. After dominating the group stage against Croatia, Holland, France and Germany, the blue eliminated Hungary and Ukraine respectively in the quarterfinals and in the semifinals, before imposing itself in the final.

Among the absolute protagonists also Raffaela Battaglia, originally from Villa San Giovanni, author of 11 points in the decisive match. The Calabrian made a fundamental contribution to victory with precision and continuity, confirming one of the strengths of the team led by Pasquale D’Aniello.

For the Italian national team it is the fourth consecutive European medal: after the silver of 2019 and 2021, two gold in a row arrived. A milestone that confirms the growth and solidity of the Italian Paralympic project in the sitting volleyball, thanks also to the commitment of the FIPAV.

In the final for third place Ukraine exceeded Slovenia 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-12).

In detail, Italy dominated the final in every fundamental. The first set opened with five consecutive aces of captain Francesca Bosio, followed by an overwhelming partial. The second set also saw the blue manage the moments of difficulty well, lengthening after the time out asked on 18-16. The battle contribution was decisive, incisive to the service and in attack. In the third set, Italy took off after a balanced start, with the strokes of Ceccatelli and the wall of Sarzi Amadè to seal the success.

An important gold, which embellishes the blue palmarès and also bears the name of Calabria, thanks to the exemplary performance of the fighting athlete of Villa San Giovanni.
