Kevin Costner, Tim Robbins, Michel Platini, and then many other national and international stars. The program of the 21st edition of the Magna Graecia Film Festival, scheduled in Catanzaro from July 27th to August 4th in Catanzaro, in the suggestive setting of the port area, is full of big names. The film and cultural festival conceived and directed by Gospite Casadonte also raises the bar this year in terms of the level of guests and the quality of the initiatives. The Magna Graecia Film is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Calabria Straordinaria – brand of the Calabria Region – Department of Tourism, Calabria Film Commission, Municipality of Catanzaro, in collaboration with Yes Start Up Calabria and Lilt – Italian League for the fight against cancer. The entire spectrum of art will be covered, including music and the world of books, and there will be no shortage of moments of social and civil commitment. The program of the 21st edition of the Mgff was presented this morning to the Municipality of Catanzaro by Casadonte together with the mayor Nicola Fiorita.

So there are two major international presences, Oscar winners who will come from the United States: the actor, Robbins will be present on August 1 and August 2 when he will hold a concert with his group, Tim Robbins and the Rogues Gallery Band and, in his honor, on August 4, «The Shawshank Redemption» will be screened, thirty years after its release in cinemas. Costner will star on July 31st, of a conversation, always conducted by Silvia Bizio, and will present the screening of the first chapter of «Horizon – An american Saga», the latest film he wrote, directed and starred in. «I am very happy to come to Calabria», said Kevin Costner in a message read at the beginning of the press conference.

And then, to tell his life story from the movies, Platini who, on July 28, interviewed by Federico Buffa will talk about his successes with Juventus and the French national team, passing through the stint as coach and manager, until becoming president of UEFA. Among the other guests of the Magna Graecia Film Festival Jerry Calà (July 29) and Raoul Bova (August 3). Also making its national premiere at the Mgff in the «Sguardi di Calabria» section is the film «Cutro, Calabria, Italia» by Mimmo Calopresti (at the Supercinema on July 29), a special project by the Calabria Film Commission, dedicated to the tragedy of the landing of migrants on the Calabrian coast. The godmother will be the singer-songwriter and actress Clara Soccini, aka Clara, who will perform on August 3. The first and second works of Italian feature films will be evaluated by a jury chaired by the actor and director Michele Alhaique and composed of the deputy director of Rai Fiction Ivan Carlei, the actresses Letizia Toni and Lucrezia Guidone, and the actors Francesco Brandi and Dino Abbrescia. Opening the program of films in competition is the directorial debut of Claudio Bisio who will inaugurate the festival with «L’ultima volta che siamo stati bambini». “We try to tell a different story, we try to show the rest of the world – said Casadonte – that there is a wonderful land that is Calabria that can host these greats of world cinema and not only”. For Fiorita “we are preparing for a great festival, which has now become a national point of reference”.
