Yesterday the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Hon. Sandra Savino, he made an institutional visit to the port of Gioia Tauro, the first Italian port for transhipment traffic.

Welcomed by the territorial director of the Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM), Antonio Di Noto, by the manager of the local Tallaric Rossella Customs Office and the territorial leaders of the Guardia di Finanza, the Undersecretary met the Agency’s staff, praising their professionalism and daily commitment.

Under the guidance of the expert officials who accompanied it inside the port airport, the Hon. Savino was able to appreciate the work of ADM which, with the numerous checks carried out every day, plays a fundamental role in facilitating the lawful commercial flows, demonstrated by the results of the assessment, which has achieved 137 million euros, strongly growing compared to the previous year.

Of great interest was the practical demonstration of the functioning of the latest generation scanners supplied to the agency which, under the expert eye of its analysts, allow the timely visual inspection of the containers selected for control.

This instrumentation, as underlined by the director of Noto, together with the excellent coordination between ADM, GDF and the other police forces operating in the port, has been crucial in recent years for the success in the fight against illicit trafficking, with over four tons of drugs seized in the last year.
