Lipari paid tribute to San Bartolomeo Apostle Patrono of the Aeolian Archipelago which also recalled thousands of devotees from Messina this year but also many tourists. It was the bishop of Piazza Armerina Rosario Gisana who presided over the pontifical mass, concelebrated by Archbishop Giovanni Accolla and by the island clergy, which preceded the procession of the simulacrum, in the presence of the civil and military authorities of the archipelago.
The descent and dressing of the silver simulacrum of San Bartolo with the numerous ex votes are suggestive. Shortly before midnight, Archbishop Giovanni Accolla blessed the boats at sea and immediately after the show of pyrotechnic games always at sea.
Together with the simulacrum in procession, the relic arm with the relic of the thumb of San Bartolo and a small silver vessel was brought, which recalls the miracle of February 12, 1672 when a boat loaded with wheat came to the larch of Lipari to save the people from the famine.
In addition to the solemnity of August 24, there are three dates in which the patron saint is remembered: on February 13 (San Bartolomeo dei Pescatori) memory of his translation, on March 5 (San Bartolomeo dei Farmers) and on November 16 (San Bartolomeo dei earthquakes).
