A project that looks to the full recognition of Lorenzo Calogero in the literary canon of the 1900s and, at the same time, proposes a participatory cultural model capable of regenerating places and knowledge inside a new concept of the south. This is the horizon with which the second edition of the Poetry Festival of Melicuccà has started, dedicated to the great poet Calogero, who will continue until Monday between cultural comparisons, performances, exhibitions, installations, installations. multimedia, concerts, excursions in the artist’s places.
First act – very awaited – of the intense program, curated by Lyriks, was the revelation of the mural work in Spolvero and Graffito “Viale dei Canti – Orizzonti Lorenzo Calogero”, created by Giuseppe Caccavale Studio in collaboration with the École des Arts Decoratifs – PSL Paris.
An artistic intervention of absolute level that has given the sense of concrete and incisive work that is taking place in the small center of the plain of Gioia Tauro: words like blades in the living meat of the town to imagine a fate of light.
At the inauguration, in Piazza Ardenza, Vincenzo Oliverio, mayor of Melicuccà, Nino Cannatà, artistic director, Marina Valensise, director of Delegated Invest and former director of the Italian Institute of Culture of Paris, Eleonora and Elisa Tallone and the artist Giuseppe Caccavale.
“This – began the mayor Oliverio – is an urban regeneration project that intends to give new life to a village affected by the irreversible disease of depopulation. But I hope in a miracle and in this sense we are working ». The great power of cultural paths as a hope of rebirth of the Calabrian internal areas.
Enthusiastic Nino Cannatà, artistic director of the project and soul of Lyriks, who remarked: «We are here to celebrate Lorenzo Calogero in his community. We are in the second year of activity and the results confirm the goodness of our work. Thanks to the Calogero heirs for the work carried out and thanks to those who will participate in these days in the activities ».

Among the other guests will be Melicuccà Milo De Angelis, Nicola Crocetti, Stefano Lanuzza, Giancarlo Cauteruccio, Massimo Zamboni, Gilda Policastro, Aldo Nove, Marcello Sambati, Federica Fracassi, Alfonso Guida, Paolo Pelliccia, Luigi Tassoni, Davide Brullo, Giorgiomaria Cornelio: poets, artists and intellectuals capable of giving a total dimension to the path dedicated to the path Calogero.
“The gestures made in recent days in Melicuccà – Valensise recalled – were consumed ten years ago in Paris for the Viale dei Canti. Then we had to decorate a large 25m wall. We wanted to give a mark after the 2015 attacks. Giuseppe Caccavale, to identify the themes, chose four poets including Lorenzo Calogero. Here today in Melicuccà you can breathe the same magic ».
The font used to carry out the work is that of Tallone Editore. A quality brand that also applies as a business card for a world, together, ancient and innovative.
In closing the caccaval master: «We have created visual icons dug with our hands. Calogero suffered because he was looking for love but did not find it. We, on the other hand, and we are lucky enough to cross it. The next generations will speak a language we need but that we don’t know today. Here we talked about Calogero in many languages. The translation, moreover, is the homeland of civilization. Inside his poetry all possible geographies. Melicuccà thus becomes an important point in the world ».
Lorenzo Calogero, born in 1910 and died in 1961, returns central to the cultural debate of our time. Just as the work of Giuseppe Fantino re -emerges. Thus opens an important path, which is destined to leave trace as an effective testimony of culture alive for the future.
