Lyric Festival Teatri di Pietra: triumph for “Aida” of Verdi in Syracuse, Taormina and Tindari

The Lyric Festival of the Teatri di Pietra thanks public for the extraordinary success given to the representations of “Aida”, among the flagships of the 2025 edition. The Verdian work par excellence was scheduled, on Thursday 24 July at the Greek Theater in Syracuse, on Saturday 26 July at the Greek Theater in Tindari and Tuesday 29 July at the Antico Theater in Taormina, offering the spectators an immersive experience between myth, music and landscape, Single frame of among the most suggestive sites in classical Sicily.

The edition was also relevant on the musicological level: for the first time in the world, “Aida” was staged in the critical edition by the musicologist Anselm Gerhard.

To embellish the monumental and unpublished setting, an international cast of absolute importance. In the role of the title Pumeza Matshikiza, South African soprano defined by “The Independent” among the most authoritative figures of the opera scene. The tenor Walter Fraccaro will play Radamès, the mezzosoprano Veronica Simeoni La Princess Amneris; The baritone Baral Chuluunbaatar the King Amesro.

On the podium, Maestro Filippo Arlia at the helm of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Calabria and the Sicilian Opera Choir, promoter of the artistic project.

The direction was signed by Salvo Dolce, which shapes a show in which the lyrical language dialogues with the soul of ancient theaters. Scenes and costumes, the latter designed by Domenico Franchi for Krakowska Opera, evoke an archaic and solemn East. The event is combined with an executive rigor, scenic spectacularity, experimentation. And also sensitivity and social inclusion: in this perspective, the Taorminese representation will be translated simultaneously into the language of Italian signs (LIS).

An epic and engaging “Aida” edition, immersed in the beating heart of Mediterranean classicism.
