The Cosenza (it originally from Marzi, in the province of Cosenza) Maria Antonietta Aiello, ordinary of construction technique and pro-rector Vicaria, has been elected rector of the University of Salento for the 192025-2031 sex year. From November 1st it will take over from the outgoing rector Fabio Pollice. It is the first woman to play this role. The election came after in recent days the other two candidates Luigi Melica, professor of comparative public law and Salvatore Rizzello Director of Isufi had withdrawn. The news was welcomed with satisfaction also by institutional exponents such as the president of the Region, Michele Emiliano, the president of the regional council, Loredana Capone and the mayor of Lecce, Adriana Poli Bortone.
