The sweet and the bitter. Many social facets touched upon in the comedy “Marta. Story of Baracca” which was staged yesterday at the Annibale M. Di Francia theatre. A show that was able to capture the audience through a story full of emotions and deep reflections.
The play addresses crucial issues such as prejudice, loan sharking, poverty and drug dealing, elements that highlight the difficulties and injustices experienced by many people on the margins. Through the story of Marta, a character who lives in a shack in the Taormina district of Messina and who embodies the daily struggle for survival, more complex issues are also explored, a symbol of a society that often bends to shortcuts to survive. There is no shortage of moments of hope and forgiveness, which show how love for others and the desire for justice can open glimmers of light in a difficult context.

The comedy, written and staged by Francesco Certo, cardiologist and president of Terra di Gesù onlus, invites us to reflect on the value of forgiveness and empathy, underlining how these feelings are fundamental to overcoming divisions and social injustices. “Marta. Storia di barracca” thus turns out to be not only entertainment, but also a powerful instrument of denunciation and hope, which reminds us of the importance of looking beyond appearances and putting humanity and solidarity at the centre. The large audience was enthusiastic. At the end, several guests and supporters of Terra di Gesù were invited to the stage. Among them Lorenzo Truscello, from the Calcio Messina cooperative society, who will present Terra di Gesù with entrance tickets to the stadium for the needy who are cared for by the association. Great satisfaction was expressed by the actors, all volunteers of the association who demonstrated how much commitment and passion can make a difference, contributing to success and strengthening the sense of community.
