On the Open Arms ruling “it seems to me to be a fact that the object of Salvini’s trial was his political choices rather than actual crimes and that jurisdiction was used to influence politics” but “today both Salvini and I are happy with the excellent work that the Minister of the Interior, Infrastructure and Transport is doing. Thus the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni responding to a question on the possibility that the Northern League deputy prime minister could return to the Interior Ministry, at the end of the North-South summit in Saariselka, in Finnish Lapland.
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Matteo Salvini in Milan, responding to those who asked him about a hypothetical return to the Interior Ministry after the acquittal in the Open Arms trial, said: «At the Ministry of the Interior there is a friend, a person who he has my friendship and my trust as Matteo Piantedosi. Surely taking care of the safety, future, tranquility and serenity of millions of Italians is something beautiful that everyone could only aspire to and if someone in the past could say ‘Salvini can’t go to the Interior because there is a trial underway about his conduct as a minister’, now this alibi no longer exists. But right now I’m fine where I am. And then I will talk to Giorgia and Matteo, this government is a team of friends and so we will see. At MIT we have many projects, many construction sites and many works: the Milan-Cortina Olympics, the Strait Bridge, a new railway network with more than a thousand open construction sites… So I am happy with what we have done and will do”, added Salvini.
