Mayor Federico Basile announces a new step in the urban transformation of the city. With the approval of the updated version of the operational plan of the Metro 2014-2020 complementary program, the municipal administration unlocks almost 6 million euros to finance the project “Realization of thematic squares”.
The plan provides for the redevelopment of 14 public areas, distributed in all six municipality, with the aim of transforming them into spaces of aggregation and sociability. The new squares will be born in the peripheral and central neighborhoods, returning to citizens renewed and functional places to the community.
Among the most significant interventions, the mayor wanted to underline the construction of a square dedicated to Sara Campanella. “His memory will live forever in the heart of our Messina, thanks to a space that will become a symbol of memory, meeting and community”, wrote Basile in his social post.
The interventions will affect different areas of the city, touching both central areas and more distant villages. The complete list includes: 1. Piazza Migneco in Briga Marina; 2. Borgo Antico in Briga Superiore; 3. Central square in Larnderia; 4. Central square in Zafferia; 5. Play area in Santa Lucia above contesses; 6. Termination of San Filippo Superiore; 7. Piazza Giuffrè in Villaggio Aldisio; 8. Superior bordonaro; 9. Large chair; 10. Piazza Casa Pia; 11. Piazza Argo at retirement; 12. Square and promenade in San Saba; 13. Piazza Principe Umberto in Salice; 14. Piazzale in memory of Sara Campanella.
The project is part of the urban redevelopment strategy launched by the administration, with the aim of making Messina more livable and attractive. “We will continue to inform you about the progress of the works,” Basile assured, confirming the commitment of the Municipality in following concrete follow -up to this ambitious regeneration program.
