The active toll at the Ponte Gallo toll booth has turned 54 years old. “An anniversary of shame”, defines it as the vice president of the VII District, Mario Biancuzzo, who as a sign of provocation wanted to celebrate it with a cake and a greeting card. A way not to turn off the spotlight and relaunch, on the anniversary day, the battle to obtain the elimination of the “tax” (1.20 euros) paid to the CAS for traveling just six kilometers of the ring road. A route which – claims Biancuzzo, promoter of two popular petitions, with the collection of tens of thousands of signatures – being part of the Municipality of Messina and not of Villafranca Tirrena, should not be taxed exactly as happens for the other junctions of Tremestieri, S.Filippo, Gazzi, Messina Centro, Boccetta and Giostra which can be used for free.
«It’s a horrible anniversary – says the district councilor – 54 years of oppression and abuse have passed. We are working on new protest initiatives to obtain the abolition of an unfair tax that we have been paying for more than half a century.”
