The control services of the State Police carried out on board the water scooters along the coast of Messina and the province continue, as part of the activities designed to guarantee safety at sea and compliance with the rules during the summer season.
In a few days the agents of the Nautical Team of the Messina Police Headquarters subjected 220 people, 43 boats and 17 beach facilities to checks. The checks were carried out along the coasts of the capital and in the localities of Patti and Capo d’Orlando.
The checks revealed several irregularities which led to the raising of nine administrative sanctions, mainly for navigation and mooring along the coast and for the lack of on-board documentation.
Five boaters in difficulty rescued
During the patrolling activity, the police also intervened in the stretch of sea in front of the Mortelle area, where five boaters found themselves in difficulty on board a dinghy which had broken down.
The vehicle, dragged by the current due to engine failure, was reached by the operators of the Nautical Team, who hooked it and towed it into safe waters, allowing subsequent anchoring in safe conditions.
The surveillance and patrolling services of the State Police on board the water scooters will continue throughout the summer season.
