A shark has been spotted near the coast of Grotte, Messina, causing concern among local swimmers who swim even in winter. The situation was promptly managed by some fishermen.

The unexpected “visit” also led to the interruption of the training of a group of surfers from the Windsurf Club Messina.

Although their presence may seem alarming, it is important to remember that accidents with these animals are extremely rare. Most of these sharks do not pose a direct threat to humans, their diet consisting mainly of smaller fish and marine invertebrates. There are, in fact, at least 47 species that call the Mediterranean home and very few pose a threat to people.

In any case, safety is paramount. Experts advise to remain calm if you spot a shark, not to approach the animal and to immediately inform the local authorities.
