On Friday 25 September, at 11am, at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in Messina, the IIS Antonello da Messina presents the exhibition “OPEN Antonello. Messina tells Gibellina”, dedicated to the works created by the students of the Technical Graphics and Communication course as part of the project “Bring me the future. Gibellina, Italian capital of Contemporary Art 2026”, carried out in partnership with Mico srl.
The third, fourth and fifth classes of the Technical Graphics and Communication course are involved
After being exhibited in Gibellina, the works arrive in Messina with an exhibition that offers students the opportunity to present the result of their work in one of the symbolic places of the city’s culture. The exhibition involves the third, fourth and fifth classes of the Technical Graphics and Communication course and was born from an educational process in which the children were confronted with the Sicilian artistic heritage: starting from the tragedy of the 1968 Belice earthquake and its effects on Gibellina, the students explored the phases of reconstruction and the strong artistic imprint, strongly desired by Ludovico Corrao, to then transform knowledge, research and creativity into a concrete visual project.
An experience that goes beyond the strictly scholastic dimension: the students were asked to interpret, design and communicate through the tools of photography and graphics, experimenting with a professional production process. The exhibition in a prestigious venue such as the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele seals this journey.
The appointment is for Friday 25 September at 11am at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in Messina. The inauguration will begin with institutional greetings from the President of the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele, Orazio Miloro, and the Superintendent, Gianfranco Scoglio. This will be followed by a speech by the Headmaster of the IIS Antonello da Messina, Daniela Pistorino, who will offer an interpretation of the project and the cultural value of the experience. The expert teachers who collaborated in the realization of the project will then speak, illustrating the various phases and the educational impact of the work.
The event thus represents a moment of meeting between school, art, territory and creative professions, giving visibility to the skills developed by students and to the role of the school as a place of cultural production and active participation in community life. The exhibition therefore becomes a bridge between the educational experience gained by the children and the public, offering the city of Messina the opportunity to get to know the result of a project born at school and grown through comparison with art, the territory and its places of culture.
The exhibition will be open to visitors every day, except Mondays, until Friday 2 October.
