Preserving and protecting life from conception to the last day, an ethical and cultural question that in the light of the continuous news news invites us to reflect on everyone’s social responsibility, which also the parishes have a duty to support. For almost half a century on the day of the liturgical holiday of the Nativity of Mary in Messina has been sealed by the blessing of women waiting and children in the first year of life, a tradition that the parish Maria SS. delle Grazie di Gravitelli Superiore, thanks to the will of the parish priest Msgr. Giovanni Impoco, shares with the communities of the city and provincial territory. It was father Marcello Pavone who presided over the mass in the parish pitch, participated by the families of the mothers waiting and the new mothers, by the volunteers of the Pia Associazione Santa Maria delle Pregnvelle and by the commissioner Nino Carreri representing the mayor Basile.

“Generating life to counter the culture of death now prevailing”: this is the message that the priest has delivered, exhorting everyone to “make the difference through the small gestures of every day”. “Many say that it takes courage to bring a child into the world; in reality a courageous faith is needed, that is, that ability to rely on one greater than us who guides us and protects us”, added Father Pavone thanking women for being “witnesses of the beauty of life”. The cult of the Madonna delle Pregnvelle is among the oldest in the city’s religious history; To this in 1921, with the donation to the Baracca Church of the current statue, that of the Madonna delle Grazie was added. To each mother, immediately after the celebration animated by the parish choir directed by Maestro Angelo Cannata, a blessed crown of the Holy Rosary was donated a sign of that daily prayer, as Father Impoco underlined, an indispensable food of every family who wants to grow in faith.
