Messina makes a system with the other 14 metropolitan cities of Italy

The 14 metropolitan cities of Italy make a single block. The distances, sometimes, are enormous, and not only in geographical terms, but of development policies, between the center-north and the South, yet in the end “the agenda of the big cities” contains the same priorities at the top of the top. From the home plan to urban regeneration interventions, from environmental renovation to the implementation of projects related to the deadlines of the PNRR, from transport and mobility to strategies to adapt urban centers to the dictates imposed by European policies and directives.
There was also Messina in comparison of Palazzo Ripetta, in Rome, promoted by the National Association of Italian Municipalities, on the theme “Synergie-l’Agenda delle Grandi Cities”. Among the main interventions, that of the mayor Federico Basile, who has told, in summary, what has been done in recent years, on the banks of the Strait, on various fronts, starting from the urban remediation which, in Messina, largely coincides with the historic question of the slums. Basile spoke of the “Pinqua” projects (the innovative “quality of living” program), which have been unlocked, even if the accumulated delays will not allow the conclusion of the works within the deadlines of the recovery and resilience plan. And here all the metropolitan cities have been agreed in claiming that it is necessary to “make a common front”, not to have extensions “sine die” but to complete those works started which, in the event of loss of funding, would remain unfinished. The case is different from those entities which, in many cases, have not even started the procedures, although knowing that the PNRR fixed the terms by 2026.
“The goal of this important meeting – comments Basile – is the definition of a common working agenda in view of the Anci assembly to be held in Bologna in November 2025. It was an intense and constructive meeting, enriched by a moment of” networking “to share ideas and prospects. And Messina did his part ».
It is precisely the research of “an open dialogue between local administrators, institutions and companies engaged in innovation and services to support Italian municipalities” is considered fundamental by the ANCI.
