The Metropolitan City of Messina intensifies the extraordinary plan for the redevelopment of the provincial road network. On the one hand, construction sites are opening in the Ionian district and in Tripi, on the other, five interventions have been entrusted which will affect a total of thirty arteries in the Tyrrhenian, Aeolian and Nebroid territories. A broad and detailed program that aims to reduce hydrogeological vulnerability, improve traffic safety and guarantee more efficient connections between inhabited centres, coastal and hilly areas.
The extraordinary plan is not limited to the reconstruction of the damaged sections, but structurally addresses the critical issues of the road network, with interventions aimed at safety, slope stability and correct water management. A strategy that strengthens the resilience of the territory and offers concrete benefits to citizens, businesses and economic operators.
The construction sites on the Ionian Sea
In the Ionian district, the works were handed over to Cogeca Srl of Agrigento, for a total amount of 453,800 euros, financed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The estimated duration is 154 days and the interventions concern three strategic provincial roads:
– SP 14 Madonna della Catena Sanctuary: widening of the roadway to allow transit in both directions, restoration of the deteriorated sections of the road surface and construction of water conveyance works. The reclamation of the slope above and the installation of new parapets, which are essential for the protection of vehicles, are also planned.
– SP 16 Forza d’Agrò: reconstruction of the underroad gutter, essential to guarantee the correct regulation of rainwater and the stability of the route, often threatened by erosion phenomena.
– SPA 232 (continuation SP 22 “Mancusa”): approximately 1.1 km long, has narrow carriageways without side protections, as well as a road surface compromised by widespread depressions. Here we will intervene with consolidation works, restoration of the flooring and installation of new vertical signs.
Tripi
On November 24th, the urgent works on the Ponte Nuovo along the provincial road 115 will be delivered. The redevelopment of the rainwater runoff will be carried out by the company Eurofer Costruzioni Srl of Brolo, for a total project cost of 110,000 euros and a total cost of the works of 77,000 euros.
The project envisages that, at km 3+800, safety measures will be carried out to avoid flooding of the road surface in the event of atmospheric events, safeguarding the structure of the bridge which presents widespread erosion phenomena both in the deck and in the load-bearing beams. Furthermore, we will proceed with the arrangement of the road surface and the replacement of safety barriers.
The Tyrrhenian area
In the Tyrrhenian Sea, the contract was awarded to DM Costruzioni Srl of Favara (AG), with a reduction of 32.221% on an estimated value of 691,826.03 euros, for a contractual amount of 474,636.26 euros. The interventions will concern eleven provincial roads (SP 60, 60 bis, 60 ter, 61, 61 quater, 62, 63, 64, 65/a, 66 and 66/a) in the territories of Monforte San Giorgio, Torregrotta, Condrò, Sicaminò, San Pier Niceto and San Filippo del Mela. Resurfacing of the road surface, construction of new ditches, consolidation of retaining walls, replacement of lateral barriers and installation of horizontal and vertical signs are planned.

The project involves the consolidation of the road body, the construction of new channels for rainwater, the resurfacing of sections of pavement and the revision of signage.
The nebroid district
The contract was awarded to the MED Construction Company of Sant’Angelo di Brolo, with a reduction of 32.246% on an estimated value of 802,168.12 euros and a contractual amount of 548,086.04 euros. “The detailed work program – declared the metropolitan mayor Federico Basile – represents a concrete step towards safer and more orderly traffic. We are intervening on the roads of the entire territory with the aim of ensuring more reliable and functional routes. These activities are part of a broader program that aims to make local mobility more fluid, respecting the territory and the communities”.
“The redevelopment plan – highlighted the general director Giuseppe Campagna – combines maintenance and attention to the environment, with defined times and solutions compatible with the places that will allow the provincial roads to be made safe and the territory to be redeveloped. The correct management of the interventions and respect for the scheduled times will guarantee safer and more sustainable infrastructures, for the benefit of citizens, economic operators and tourists”.
