The inauguration of the new face of Piazza Fazio, the result of the urban regeneration interventions carried out as part of the “Resilient Public Space” project, promoted by the Puli-Hamo Messina Association in partnership with the Municipality of Messina, the Youth Consultation, the Ionian Association and the Cesv Messina, took place this afternoon. The initiative, financed by the Sicilian Region and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to be worth on the Fund for Youth Policies 2022, has transformed this space on the city suburbs into a regenerated, inclusive and shared place, thanks to the laying of artisan furnishings, the planting of green and artistic and participatory interventions that involved residents and volunteers.
The event took part in the mayor Federico Basile, the councilors for youth policies Liana Cannata, the Urban Arredo Massimiliano Minutoli and the administrative decentralization Nino Carreri. Present among others, the city councilor Raimondo Mortelliti, the president of the third municipality Alessandro Cacciotto with a delegation of councilors; and representatives of the partner associations, beyond citizens who have actively contributed to the realization of the project.
“Piazza Fazio – said the mayor Basile – today is the concrete demonstration of what can be achieved when institutions, associations and citizens work together for the common good. This renewed space is a sign of care and attention for all the neighborhoods of the city”. The Cannata councilor added: “Projects like this damage and protagonism to young people, enhancing their creativity and their civic commitment. It is a virtuous example of how active participation can regenerate not only places, but also relationships”.
“We wanted to return a new identity to this square, taking care of every detail, from artisan to green furnishings. It is an intervention that combines functionality, beauty and sustainability, and which will be kept by the whole resident community”, underlined the commissioner Minutoli. “With the inauguration of the new Piazza Fazio we celebrate the completion of the first chapter of the SPR project-Resilient public space, the result of the synergy between institutions, associations, commercial activities and citizens. An ‘non-place’ has become a community and participation space, with two new squares dedicated to Mata and Grifone.
