When will the people of Messina know whether mayor Federico Basile will be able to remain in his post for the entire duration of his mandate or whether, a few months after his re-election, the city will have to undergo yet another commissionership, returning to the polls again? Regardless of the reasons that will be supported by those who decided to appeal to the TAR and those who, in defending themselves, reiterate that they acted “in the right” and with the comfort of the institutions, if on the one hand the unknown of the final outcome of this match remains, on the other there is the certainty of the times that will mark the next stages.
The first, and already highly indicative, does not directly concern Messina, but Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto. There too, as in the capital, South calls North presented, in support of the mayoral candidate Melangela Scolaro (who later won the elections), five lists with the party logo inside the symbol, all without collecting signatures. The same principle was followed in Messina, the result of two opinions – made public and also forwarded by the prefecture – of the Local Autonomy department, which only turned to the Legislative and Legal Office when the deadline for submitting the lists was imminent. The interpretation of the latter, which instead suggested the need to collect signatures, was thus classified, only to leak out in recent days.
