There is no time to waste for the city council, also because too much time has passed since the elections, over forty days. The new president Massimiliano Minutoli, having closed the first chapter of the opening session, with its train of controversies, has already called the first conference of group leaders for today, to begin planning the next steps of the Chamber.
There are key resolutions on the horizon that must be addressed as soon as possible, also because they are subject to precise deadlines. In fact, by the end of July, the documents on the verification of budget balances, the much debated Rottamazione quinquies and the economic and financial plan for waste management and, therefore, for the Tari must be discussed. Arguments which, this is the feeling after the first three hours of the city council meeting on Sunday morning, will easily ignite tempers in a Chamber in which the opposition seems determined to sharpen its “weapons”. This is demonstrated by the decision announced by Marcello Scurria to appeal against the methods of election of the vice-president, specifically Nello Pergolizzi (but what is contested, obviously, is not the choice, but the procedure adopted, with a separate vote with respect to the second vice-presidency, so it will be discussed in another session).
Today, therefore, the names of the group leaders of the various forces represented in the Council will be known. Barring twists and turns, in the majority they will be Nicoletta D’Angelo for South calls North, Nicola Maddocco for Basile Mayor, Paolo Alibrandi for Messina Protagonist, Mirko Cantello for Federico for Messina, Peppe Chiarella for Amo Messina.
