Some people deserve to live in a large open-air garbage dump. The one that for years has continued to throw waste into the streets where once there were bins, not caring about separate waste collection. It would be worth it if no Messinaservizi employee or vehicle moved to remove the piles of rubbish thrown onto the street, in defiance of all regulations, respect for decorum and the environment. It deserves to live among mice, insects and cockroaches.
But the vast majority of citizens, however, do not deserve all this. Messina has raised the levels of separate waste collection, becoming a model for other municipalities too, certainly for the other two Sicilian metropolitan cities, Palermo and Catania, which are still far behind in door-to-door percentages. The city of those taxpayers who regularly pay the Tari, even when the cost of the tax shoots up due to the uncivilized people, as well as the tax evaders and the wicked choices made in recent decades by the Sicilian Region, which based its waste sector economy on landfills.
The images of via Seminario Estivo, in Giostra, are emblematic: in that street, despite complaints and interventions, today we can officially say that the reign of rats has been established.
